Welcome to Gothenburg! As a new international researcher in Gothenburg you are invited to lots of interesting welcome activities and meeting places. We want you to feel right at home and have compiled some activities to give you the opportunity to get to know the city and to connect with your fellow researchers at Chalmers University of Technology and the University of Gothenburg.

Guided tour at Älvrummet

Join us on a guided tour at Älvrummet Information Center, Lindholmen Science Park.
The Älvrummet Information Center is solely dedicated to the development of Gothenburg. The visit will give you inspiration and information on the future of the city. We will also serve a traditional Swedish “fika” after the guiding.
When: 6 March Time: 14:00-15:30. Where: Lindholmspiren 3-5. Availability: The area is accessible. Registration: Registration is necessary. To get there: It is easy to get to Älvrummet by ferry, bicycle, bus.
This year’s the Science roulette is something extraordinary. We fill the gondolas in the Liseberg Wheel with international researchers from 10 EU countries and varied subjects.
As a visitor, you do not know who you are meeting or what to hear. In as a question mark and out as an exclamation mark!
When: 3 April Time: 17:00-18.30 Note: We meet you at 17:00 and be on time when it is a popular activity open for public. Family and friends are welcome. Where: Liseberg, Korsvägen Registration: Registration is not necessary, it is an open activity in the ordinary program from the International Science Festival.
After the Science Roulette you are welcome to join the Science Slam, a competition where researchers compete in presenting their research in an interesting and effective way.

Welcome on a boat trip in Gothenburg´s southern archipelago!
We meet at the tram station at Saltholmen 16:15 and take the ferry to Brännö. The visit starts with a guided tour on the island that ends up at Brännö Varv. After a nice evening with food and quiz we take the ferry back to Saltholmen at 20:30.
When: May 28 at 16:15-20:30. Where: Brännö Island. Meeting Point: Saltholmen tram station. Travelling to Saltholmen: Tram nr 11 from central of Gothenburg. Availability: The guided tour takes place on hilly land on the island. The boat ride and the way to the restaurant are accessible.
International visiting researchers at the University of Gothenburg and Chalmers University of Technology are invited to an international reception hosted by the City of Gothenburg. Welcome to this popular event which includes welcome speeches, food, and an excellent chance to meet fellow researchers.

Sightseeing in and around Gothenburg
Join us on a guided tour in and around Gothenburg and explore the most famous sights in the city. You will get to see places, buildings and hear more about our international city throughout the years. We will also stop off for a traditional Swedish “fika” along the way.

Traditional Lucia Celebration
We are pleased to invite visiting researchers from Chalmers and the University of Gothenburg to join us in this pre-Christmas celebration. With origins in both pagan and Christian traditions, the Swedish Lucia celebration is one of the highlights of the winter season.
When: 13 December 2019. Where: University main building at Vasaplatsen (Universitetsplatsen 1).
The closest tram/bus stop is ”Vasaplatsen”.
